The ATP World Tour kicks off on Sunday January 4, 2009 with the world’s best players all competing and BetUS Sportsbook will be there, bringing all the tennis betting action to you no matter where you are in the world. Online tennis betting has never been so easy and simple.
Three events are scheduled to open the 2009 season – in Brisbane, Doha, and Chennai. So here is a quick rundown of what online tennis bettors can look forward to next week.
Brisbane International – Brisbane Australian
January 4-11, 2009 – Hard | Prize Purse $484,750
The Brisbane International is officially the first tournament of the ATP World Tour 2009 season, starting on Sunday. Sixteen players in the top 50 have confirmed, including 2008 Australian Open champion Novak Djokovic and runner-up Jo-Wilfried Tsonga. Both have thrown down the gauntlet to fellow tennis heavyweights by declaring their intention of seizing the No.1 ranking this season. No.3 Novak Djokovic is within striking distance and Tsonga is not far behind so if they are to accomplish their gate crashing intentions an important result in Brisbane will be crucial.
Also in attendance, Fernando Verdasco, Tomas Berdych, Richard Gasquet, Mardy Fish, Marcos Baghdatis and Robin Soderling.
Tennis Betting Result in 2008: Michael Llodra of France beat Jarkko Nieminen in the final 6-3, 6-4.
Chennai Open – Chennai, India
January 5-11, 2009 – Hard | Prize Purse $450,000
The 14th edition of the Chennai Open will proceed without both the 2008 finalists; Rafael Nadal, who finished runner-up after he was stunned by Mikhail Youzhny in the final 6-0, 6-1, has decided to attend the much bigger and more prestigious affair in Doha. Youzhny will also be heading to Doha. The absence of both players means the title is for the taking. Headlining the action in Chennai will be Nikolay Davydenko, who reached the Tennis Masters Cup final in 2008. He is one of the short odds on favourites at the event but he will meet stiff opposition from some dangerous veterans and rising up-and-comer – most notably: Carlos Moya and Ivo Karlovic (in the former category), and Marin Cilic, Janko Tipsarevic and Stanislas Wawrinka (of the latter group).
QATAR EXXONMOBIL OPEN, Doha, Qatar
January 5-11, 2009 – Hard, $1,110,250
The Qatar Exxonmobil Open has snared the cream of the crop in tennis this season as the line-up of assembled in Doha enviably boasts three of the top five; Rafael Nadal, 2004-05 champion Roger Federer and defending champion Andy Murray are all heading to Doha to compete at this most prestigious and cash precious opening event. Also in attendance: Andy Roddick, Igor Andreev, Dmitry Tursunov, Phillipp Kohlshreiber and Mikhail Youzhny.
