NHL Hockey Betting – Ottawa Senators @ Chicago Blackhawks

Although the weather is cooling down, hockey season is heating up at BetUS Sportsbook. Wednesday night features a cross-conference clash for NHL bettors between the high flying Chicago Blackhawks (12-6-7) and the Ottawa Senators (10-10-5). This game highlights a difference in styles with the Blackhawks being one of the highest scoring teams in the NHL, averaging 3.6 goals per game, whereas the Senators are one of the lowest scoring teams in the league only averaging a paltry 2.5 goals per game.

Ottawa finished up its most recent homestand with a 4-3 pro hockey betting overtime loss at the hands of the Florida Panthers. In the loss, Jason Spezza, Dany Heatley, and Chris Kelly tallied goals for Senators bettors, but it wasn’t enough to keep the Panthers at bay. Production from the first line hasn’t been the problem for the Senators, with Heatley, Spezza, and captain Daniel Alfredsson all tallying over 20 points on the year. Instead, the problem has been with the second and third lines that have yet to see a player achieve 10 points.

Goaltender Alex Auld has been exceptional for the Senators when in net, and is currently 2nd in the NHL in GAA with a measly 2.06 GAA, contributing to his stellar .924 save percentage and 9-6-4 record. Gamblers who bet on NHL ‘unders’ have also been keen on Auld’s play with 11 of his last 15 starts going under the ‘total’ per the closing NHL betting odds.

Last Sunday, the Blackhawks high-octane was on display in their 7-1 NHL wagering win against the Phoenix Coyotes. In the win, LW Andrew Ladd had his best game of the season, tallying a goal and three assists to help lead the Blackhawks rout. On the season, former #1 overall pick RW Patrick Kane continues to lead the team in points with 32 (12 G, 20 A) through 25 games. The Blackhawks have been especially high scoring lately with their last four games all going over the ‘total’ by the pro hockey gambling line.

Early on in the season, the Blackhawks goaltending was hampering their success, but lately both Cristobal Huet and Nikolai Khabibulin have improved, combining for a 2.63 GAA and .913 save percentage on the season. However, with Khabibulin out due to a lower body injury the past five games, Blackhawks bettors have watched Huet struggle, allowing 15 goals over the last five.

NHL betting trends for the gambler to be aware of before making a wager on this game include: Ottawa is 8-20 in its last 28 road games, Chicago is 13-5 for pro hockey bettors in its last 18 home games, and the ‘over’ has cashed five of the last six times these two teams have met.

NHL odds show the Blackhawks as -165 home favorites in this game with a ‘total’ of 5.5 goals shaded toward the over at -130 odds.
