NFL Week 2 Betting – Teasers that are a LOCK

Bookmark and Share by Charles Jay

I'm not one to go overboard with the so-called "exotic" wagers, but I will be the first one to admit that one can do well with some well-placed teasers wagers. Throughout the season we will explore teasers that we can play on the week's NFL and/or college games. This week we'll do a series of two-team, six-point teasers.

You're going to, in effect, parlay a pair of games here, and in each of those games you are going to be able to move the line six points in your favor. For example, you can take a team that is getting two points in the BetUS NFL Sportsbook and "Tease" it up to eight points. Conversely, if you are going to use an eight-point favorite, you can have that team at two points. We'll lay -110, which means that you have to essentially win about the same percentage of teaser bets as you would normal bets to reach the break-even point. f

What we'll do here is present a number of these two-team teasers and maybe you'll be able to cash in on some of them. The teased number is listed, with the opponent in parentheses:

TEASER #1

Oakland Raiders +9 ( Kansas City Chiefs)

Philadelphia Eagles +7 ( New Orleans Saints)

-- Last week, the Raiders showed a pulse. I'm not saying there is a class difference here, and JaMarcus Russell certainly has a lot to learn, but I'm not convinced Kansas City is in a real good offensive position right now, with or without Matt Cassel. Todd Haley has a lot of work to do, and the Oakland running game is likely to be more productive than Kansas City's in this matchup.

As for the Eagles, I am not one of those people who believes they absolutely need Donovan McNabb to win games, and I think that fact is kind of scary to McNabb, who now has no less than three quarterbacks breathing down his neck. Philadelphia is always dangerous as a dog, and I give them a real chance to win because of the defensive advantage they have against the Saints. I want to see New Orleans stop somebody first before I lay points on the road against a good team.

TEASER #2

St. Louis Rams +15.5 ( Washington Redskins)

New York Giants +9 ( Dallas Cowboys)

-- Yes, St. Louis is a potential disaster area, and I don't know if they'll put Jason Campbell "in the soup," but the Redskins seem to struggle just to get to 17 points, whoever they're facing. Steve Spagnuolo, with lots of knowledge of what the 'Skins do, will pull something out of his bag to keep it reasonable.

Don't tell me the Giants, who have won 11 of their last 14 road games straight-up, can't pull off a win in that new Cowboys Stadium. Let's see if Tony Romo has enough time to throw those long downfield passes against Umenyiori, Tuck & Co.

TEASER #3

Baltimore Ravens +9 ( San Diego Chargers)

Atlanta Falcons pick (Carolina Panthers)

-- When you can play defense and run the football, you always have a good shot when you go out on the road. That's something Baltimore certainly does, and they have won five of their last six as the visitor. I'm a little suspicious of the Chargers right now, especially if who knows whether LaDanian Tomlinson even wants to play....Yeah, I know I liked Carolina plus the points, but I thought this game would be a close one.

You have to respect the way Atlanta can chew clock on offense, and Tony Gonzalez is a nice target for Matt Ryan. I also respect that Jake Delhomme needs to get his act together quickly or the Panthers will stick AJ Feeley in there. Am I just covering myself? Maybe. I'm just teasing it to a pick with a team that is the -260 favorite in the BetUS money line.

TEASER #4

San Francisco 49ers +5.5 ( Seattle Seahawks)

Miami Dolphins +9 ( Indianapolis Colts)

-- Yes, I realize that I am breaking somebody's "golden rule" here by "crossing the zero" with an Francisco, but I'm now getting more than a field goal, and I think the Niners' run game will have better luck operating this week against this Seattle defense.

The Dolphins are not as bad as they looked last Sunday. All they need to do is avoid coughing it up so often and they can play even-steven with the Colts, who are less explosive than advertised. At least they'll likely have the heat and the wetness on their side.

TEASER #5

Tennessee Titans -1 ( Houston Texans)

Cleveland Browns +9 ( Denver Broncos)

The Titans have just too many fundamental edges here. I think that if the Texans essentially allowed first-time starter Mark Sanchez to do whatever he wanted to last week, why wouldn't veteran Kerry Collins be able to take some liberties? Certainly Tennessee. with a "thunder and lightning" thing going for them in the backfield, has a chance to wear Houston's defensive front down.

In the Mile High City there's a matchup of former New England assistants Eric Mangini and Josh McDaniels, and neither is armed with a big arsenal. I am still not altogether convinced that Denver can pull away from ANY opponent at this point in time. Yes, Cleveland is still in the NFL and qualifies as "any opponent." Do you realize that Denver covered once at home all last year? The Browns may actually have the quarterback edge in this one. Isn't that scary?
