TEASE ME!

NFL Betting Teasers of the Week

October 2, 2009

What we want to do this week is the same thing we did for college football teasers, except now we're going to do it for NFL betting at BetUS, and it's something we'll get in the habit of. The team we're using is on the left, with the "teased" number and the opponent in parentheses.

Let's start off with a TWO-TEAM, SIX-POINT TEASER in which we have to win both ends and will lay 11/10 (-110) in NFL betting:

Cincinnati Bengals pick ( Cleveland Browns)

Pittsburgh Steelers pick ( San Diego Chargers)

Let's see... Cleveland is still somewhat dysfunctional, and the offense has scored a touchdown in just one of the last nine games. Do we have that right? Sure, Derek Anderson can get very hot and find receivers, but those receivers would likely be wearing the Bengals' uniform....... Pittsburgh has be feeling in some desperate shape after two straight losses. I don't think anything is so functionally wrong with them, though, and I think they can win straight-up by getting physical against a Charger team that has some missing parts.

Now let's go to the FOUR-TEAM, 13-POINT TEASER where you have to LAY 3/2 (-150) in this NFL betting proposition:

Baltimore Ravens +13.5 ( New England Patriots)

Buffalo Bills +13 ( Miami Dolphins)

Tampa Bay Buccaneers +20.5 ( Washington Redskins)

Jacksonville Jaguars +20 ( Tennessee Titans)

The key for the Ravens is that they can score a little now that they've opened the playbook up more for Joe Flacco. I am not expecting the Patriots and Tom Brady to "get well" on offense with the aggressiveness they'll have to face with Baltimore......I don't yet trust Chad Henne to be able to create distance between his low-octane Dolphins and any team, unless they hold the ball for 55 minutes this time.

The Redskins have scored more than 20 points once in their last eleven games, which is why I can be relatively confident getting something extra with Tampa Bay here. For this game, maybe new Bucs quarterback Josh Johnson confuses Washington enough to make a difference....Jacksonville has some problems, as we know, and Tennessee is feeling more desperate, but the Titans have to get more explosive on offense to create cushions between themselves and other teams.

The next one is a THREE-TEAM, TEN-POINT TEASER in which you will get ten points toward your side on three different games. In the NFL betting parlance, you will LAY 6/5 here, so it's -120.

New York Giants +1.5 ( Kansas City Chiefs)

Chicago Bears pick ( Detroit Lions)

Indianapolis Colts pick ( Seattle Seahawks)

The Giants have won 15 out of their last 18 on the road, and they have all kinds of fundamental advantages over a Chiefs team that is both inexperienced and non-explosive......Yes, the Lions won last week and they will probably play a little looser with that monkey off their collective back, and although I still consider the Chicago receiving corps to be somewhat suspect, the Bears still have plenty to throw at Detroit. Is Matthew Stafford ready to win a game on the road? He'd have to in this instance.

I know that Indianapolis is not a great "bully" of late, and we don't mind Seattle getting points, but unless the Colts completely lay down, I don't see them letting a straight-up win slip through their grasp against this Seattle team that is very banged-up, missing Matt Hasselbeck and Walter Jones, along with some defenders.

Next in our NFL betting excursion we'll take a FOUR-TEAM, SEVEN-POINT TEASER in which we take seven points to the good in four different games. You will get paid off at odds of 2/1 (+200):

Oakland Raiders +15.5 ( Houston Texans)

New Orleans Saints pick ( New York Jets)

St. Louis Rams +16.5 ( San Francisco 49ers)

Denver Broncos +10 ( Dallas Cowboys)

With the Texans-Raiders matchup, it might certainly be a matter of weaponry, but it might also come down to whether Houston can muster up enough defense to keep Oakland's offense off the field for very long. So far they haven't done it against anybody.......If there's is one quarterback in the NFL I would feel confident with against a defense as aggressive as the Jets, it's Drew Brees, who can move a little and makes very quick, very smart decisions. Last year he almost set a record for most passing yards with a lot of his outlets injured. This year they're healthier, and he appears just as dangerous as ever.

Without Frank Gore, I don't know that the Niners' low-variance attack can pull away against many teams. St. Louis may have a formula to keep it reasonable, with Steven Jackson and a defense that will put pressure on Shawn Hill.....Maybe I am behind the curve on this one, but it does look like the Broncos are playing some defense, allowing 16 points and just 36 first downs thus far. Sure, they take a step up in opposition this week, but as long as they can shorten games, they will stay within earshot.

Good luck to you.
