Week 8 of the NFL online betting season concludes on Monday night when the Atlanta Falcons (4-2, 4-2 ATS) invade the Superdome to crack skulls with the New Orleans Saints (6-0, 6-0 ATS) in a NFC South pro football betting battle; kick-off is set for 8:30 ET and can be seen nationally on ESPN.

Both of these clubs held serve on their home turf a year ago with the Falcons serving up a 34-20 home win and cover as 1-point home chalks in Week 10, while the Saints returned the favor in Week 14 winning 29-25 as three-point home favorites. After struggling to sit through last week’s Monday nighter b/n the Eagles and Redskins, NFL bettors were in for a treat when the Falcons and Saints teed it up for a good old fashioned divisional battle. The game impressed from the opening quarter forward as the scoring came at a frenetic pace and didn’t stop until there were 34 points combined put on the scoreboard at the break.

QB’s Matt Ryan and Drew Brees played the “Anything you can do I can do better” card as both field general’s connected with their WR’s for huge scoring plays. Ryan got the games scoring started when he connected with WR Roddy White on a 13-yard TD pass, but Brees answered when he and WR Lance Moore played pass and catch from seven-yards out to tie it up. Both defenses lent hands in putting points on the board in the 2 nd quarter. Brees was INT’d and got returned for a TD, but NO countered with a strip in the Falcons red zone that saw the Saints offense tie it up when RB Pierre Thomas rumbled in from four-yards out.

New Orleans grabbed the upper hand in the 3 rd quarter outscoring the Falcons by 10 after Brees threw his 2 nd of three TDs in the game. But Atlanta fought back and closed to within three with 3+ minutes left when RB Michael Turner hit pay dirt for the second time. For the first time in the game, Brees and company went to a ball control attack. With ATL already using two of its timeouts, NO was able to salt the remaining time in the game and hold on for the SU win; they did however drop their first NFL pointspread cover of the year.

These divisional rivals combined for 1200+ total yards, 36 1 st downs, only two turnovers and 71-points combined! What a Monday nighter! Can’t wait to see Round 2 in 6 weeks!!!
