New Orleans Hornets played yesterday, as they lost a 97-87 decision to the Boston Celtics despite sinking 13 three-points shots. They were sitting with a three-point deficit at the end of three quarters but the team couldn't close it out. Emeka Okafor, working against Boston's front line, had only two field goals.
The Knicks came from way back to force overtime against the Phialdelphia 76ers on Saturday night, but after forcing overtime, promptly fell apart and found themselves on the short end of a 141-127 score. The Knicks got 30 points out of Danilo Gallinari, who was just inserted into the lineup by coach Mike D'Antoni, and Al Harrington actually came off the bench to score 42 points.
But the New York Knicks did not defend, allowing Philadelphia to shoot 61% from the field. This came one night after a spirited road effort against a team (Charlotte) that had previously scored 59 points against Boston. The opposition has been accurate 51.4% of the time from the field.
Now here are some of the head-to-head pro basketball sports betting trends as they relate to this matchup:
- NO has covered six of the last nine meetings
- NO has won seven of the last nine meetings SU
- Four of the last six meetings have gone UNDER the total
- NO has won and covered four of the last five meetings as the road team
- NO has covered six of the last 20 meetings as the road team
- NY has won 14 of the last 20 meetings SU as the home team
- Six of the last seven meetings in New York have gone UNDER the total
You can tell already that New Orleans is going to have some problems getting anything going out of its bench. Yeah, I know they're trying to emulate the Manu Ginobili thing by having Peja Stojakovic (26 points vs. Boston) come off the pines, but the difference is that the Spurs don't suffer all that much in the starting lineup until he gets in there. Peja really belongs in the starting lineup for New Orleans, because I don't know how much they are really going to get out of two low-octane starters in Morris Peterson and Julius Wright.
Frankly, I'm not sure they are going to need more than seven players to go at it against the Knicks, who will be completely handcuffed if Chris Paul can exert some control over the tempo. In case you're not aware, the Knicks had a very clear game plan going into this season - get themselves ready for the free agency period that precedes NEXT season.
That means clearing cap space and keeping things together with glue until then. So they will go under-equipped to the backboards and will sustain a major disadvantage with Chris Duhon at the point guard spot, and lost some firepower when Nate Robinson, who can score 30 points off the bench at any time, went out with an ankle sprain.
New Orleans has to get some things together, but the Hornets are disciplined enough to be able to have their way with this Knick team. We'll lay the points with the Hornets, the three-point favorite in the BetUS NBA pro basketball betting odds.
