Sprint Cup Series Betting - The Sharpie 500 from Bristol

Race-day: 8/22/2009
Race-time: 6:30 pm EST
Night racing at Bristol, Connecticut. Does it get any better? NASCAR travels to Bristol once again for the Sharpie 500 this Saturday.
Kyle Busch won the first race at Bristol Motor Speedway in 2009, but Busch hasn’t done a whole lot since. Still, he’s one of the favorites in the BetUS online sportsbook to take home the Sharpie 500 trophy.
Of course, he’ll have to go through Smoke and the Hendrick Boys before getting to take it home.
Let’s take a look at some of the contenders to win the Sharpie 500
NASCAR: Sharpie 500 To Win
1. Carl Edwards +700 - - Edwards won the Sharpie 500 in 2008 and finished a very respectable 4th in the Carfax 400 last week. Edwards keeps moving up in the Sprint Cup Power Rankings. A victory in the Sharpie 500 would propel him back into the Chase discussion.
2. Jimmie Johnson +1000 - - Jimmie’s 33rd place finish in the Carfax 400 was absolutely dreadful. He’s never won at Bristol which is one of the reasons he’s going off at double-digit odds, but this is Jimmie we’re talking about here. I see him making a good run in this race.
3. Tony Stewart +700 - - Smoke uncharacteristically missed finishing the Top 10 in last week’s Carfax 400. His 17th place finish wasn’t awful and he still is the leader in the Sprint Cup Points Standings, but with only 1 victory at Bristol, gamblers have to be careful about betting on Smoke in this race. Then again, Stewart could very well bounce back and take home his third trophy of the year.
4. Jeff Gordon +800 - - Gordon jumped ahead of his Hendrick teammate, Jimmie Johnson, and into the second spot in the Sprint Cup Points Standings by finishing 2nd in the Carfax 400. Gordon is a Bristol master with 5 victories at the track. He’s got a shot for a 6th.
5. Mark Martin +900 - - With only 2 victories at Bristol, one would think that Martin doesn’t have a shot in the Sharpie 500. This is especially true since his Carfax 400 run was awful, but Martin has bounced back before this year after bad runs. He’s won four races in 2009. That makes him tough almost every week.
6. Kyle Busch +700 - - Can Kyle get back on the winning track? That’s the question as Busch has really taken a downturn in 2009 after a super solid 2008. Busch is a good driver but something isn’t working. Whatever it is, Busch won at the Bristol Motor Speedway earlier this year. So, he knows what to do on the track.
Best Long Shot
Jeff Burton +2800 - - Burton finished 18th last week which was great considering the 2009 he has had. He only has one victory at Bristol, but it came last year. Also, bettors shouldn’t forget that Burton made a huge run to finish 3rd in the Sprint Cup Chase in 2008. Maybe, he starts his run this Saturday.
