World Series Game 6 - Phillies vs. Yankees from the Bronx

Baseball betting swings to the Big Apple for a possible World Series celebration. The New York Yankees can win their first world title since 2000 if they can beat the Philadelphia Phillies and a familiar foe in Game 6 on Wednesday night.

Oddsmakers have set the MLB betting lines with the Yankees priced as -210 home favorites. New York holds a 3-2 series lead over the Phillies, who are listed at +175 with righthander Pedro Martinez on the mound.

Martinez, one of the Yankees' all-time greatest rivals, is coming off a solid six-inning performance in Game 2 of the World Series. The veteran allowed three runs while striking out eight batters but served up two home runs, eventually picking up a 3-1 loss. If there is anyone who can stand the pressure of Wednesday's situation, it's Martinez.

New York will counter with a veteran arm of its own. Left-handed starter Andy Pettitte will get the ball on just three days rest in Game 6. Pettitte was steady in his last outing, giving up four runs including two home runs while striking out seven batters in an 8-5 Game 4 victory. Pettitte is used to getting extra days off between starts this postseason and hasn't gone on three days rest in over two years.

The Phillies fought off elimination at home in Game 5, getting two huge home runs from second baseman Chase Utley, who tied Reggie Jackson's World Series record with five home runs in the World Series. Those home runs led Philadelphia to an 8-6 win, sending the series back to New York. Utley is hitting .333 with eight RBI for the series.

The Phillies also got some much-needed production from the top of the order in Game 5. On top of Utley's contributions, Phillies leadoff man shortstop Jimmy Rollins was 2-for-4 with a walk to improve his numbers to 5-for-19 for the series. That helped set the table for the middle of the order.

Sluggers Ryan Howard, Jayson Werth, and Raul Ibanez all registered a hit Monday but still need to capitalize on the limited chances the Yankees are giving them. Howard, who was the NLCS MVP, is batting a mere .158 with only one RBI and has yet to go yard in the World Series.

The first baseman knocked 45 balls out of the park this season and hit two home runs against the Dodgers. His biggest issue seems to be connecting with the ball. The New York staff has sent the burly infielder back to the dugout 12 times in five games.

The Yankees’ star sluggers are also struggling to repeat their production of the League Championship Series. Third baseman Alex Rodriguez is hitting only .222 in the World Series but does have one home run and six RBI. Teammate Mark Teixeira is slumping at the wrong time - the first baseman has a World Series average of just .105 with two RBI and seven strikeouts.

Keeping the Bronx Bombers afloat are outfielder Johnny Damon and shortstop Derek Jeter. Damon has come on strong in the past two games and is hitting .381 with four RBI and three stolen bases in the World Series. Jeter has lived up to his title as “Mr. Yankee”, batting .364 with 10 total bases.

Baseball bettors trying to capitalize on the recent surge of offense will have an MLB betting total of nine runs to play with Wednesday night. The last three games have finished over the number with a combined 38 runs in those contests. The Yankees are 35-41-5 over/under at home this year, while the Phillies boast a 38-38-4 over/under mark on the road.
