March Madness History
March Madness has expanded to become one of the great sporting
events in the world. The
70th March Madness tournament will take place from March 16th -
April 5th, 2010 across a dozen U.S. states, ending with the Men's
Final Four Championship Game at Lucas Oil Stadium, Indianapolis,
IN.
The NCAA Men's Division I Basketball Championship is now the
premier college tournament in all NCAA sports. This storied
tournament began in1939 with only 8 teams and as of 2001, has
reached the current total bids of 65 teams.
It was Brent Musburger who first coined the term "March Madness" in
the NCAA Tournament games he called in 1982. Since then, the term
Big Dance has been incorporated to give college basketball fans a
better idea of the big picture because just one nickname wasn't
enough for the biggest NCAA tournament of the year.
The Madness refers to the frenzied action on the hard court as 49
games are played in the first weekend alone and the passion ignited
inside both fans and NCAA college hoops bettors can be seen in
people around the country.
March Madness has turned into one of the premier betting events of
the year. Not only are college basketball fans making wagers
on individual games but they're filling out brackets from top to
bottom, picking the winners all the way to the championship.
NCAA basketball brackets have become a staple around office coolers throughout late March and early April. BetUS provides a free, printable NCAA basketball bracket, so you can get your office or group into the mix!
