The Brawl for it all - (1) North Carolina vs. (2) Michigan State

Bookmark and Share by Eric Williams

The Michigan State Spartans (31-6 SU, 21-12-1 ATS, 14-20 O/U) and North Carolina Tar Heels (33-4 SU, 16-19 ATS, 19-16 O/U) will ‘brawl for it all’ tonight when they battle tonight at Detroit's Ford Field in the 2009 NCAA college basketball championship game.

Both ballclubs have won and covered the spread in five consecutive games to reach the title contest with the Spartans shocking No. 1 seed UConn 82-73 on Saturday and the Tar Heels doing likewise to the Villanova Wildcats, winning 83-69 also on Saturday.

Sophomore Kalin Lucas scored a team-high 21 points and dished out five assists as Michigan State covered the spread in the BetUS Sportsbook as 4.5-point underdogs and the game played Over the posted O/U total of 134.5 points.

North Carolina jumped all over Villanova to easily cover the spread as 7.5-point favorites and the final score checked in Under the posted O/U total of 160 points.

Junior point guard Ty Lawson put on a fine performance with a team-high 22 points, eight rebounds and seven assists while 2008 NCAA Player of the Year, senior forward Tyler Hansbrough, added a double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds.

Analysis: While the Michigan State Spartans have beaten two straight teams (Louisville, UConn) they were ‘supposed’ to lose to, I picked the North Carolina Tar Heels to win the championship before the tournament ever started and that’s who I’m sticking with tonight.

If the Spartans try to run with the Tar Heels as I am hearing from some credible sources that they will, I think the Tar Heels are looking at a double-digit victory while the game plays Over the set O/U total.

Take Tyler Hansbrough to finally get his elusive national championship while the Tar Heels win going away.
