Horse Pick of the Day from Mountaineer Racetrack

Horse Pick of the Day: Mountaineer – Race 8
Race-day: 10/27/2009
Race-time: 9:55 pm EST
Mountaineer is always a good track for horseplayers to find long shots and overlays in which to make horse bets.
Mountaineer Racetrack brings in so much money with their casino that it doesn't have to worry about ever filling a race. In recent years, better jockeys and better trainers have stepped onto the Mountaineer racetrack in order to try for nice purses.
Such is the case in Race 8 at Mountaineer on Tuesday night, an allowance race with a purse of $28,600.
Let’s take a look at Race 8 at Mountaineer on Tuesday night.
Mountaineer – Race 8
Allowance $28,600 n4L
For Fillies and Mares Three Years Old and Upward Which Have Never Won Four Races
1 mile on dirt
Nothinglikegold - - 6/1 morning line odds
Nothinglikegold figures to get an easy lead in this race as the only other speed in here, Pyriteville, won’t go with her. Nothinglikegold is coming off of a $50,000 claimer at 5 ½ furlongs but she has finished 3 rd at 1 mile and 70 yards and 1 st at 7 furlongs. Both of those great finishes was on the turf. On the dirt Nothinglikegold figures to improve at the longer distance which means that she is worth a shot at the expected odds.
Hakuna Matata - - 9/2 morning line odds
Hakuna Matata comes back at this 1 mile distance after trying 1 1/16 th miles and winning in her last. She has the ability to either close from the clouds or stalk 1 to 2 lengths off of the pace. Her trainer, Lawrence Uelmen is winning at 43% at the meet and the last time she ran at this distance she won with a nice speed rating. There is a lot to like about this gal in this race.
Lads Starlit - - 3/1 morning line odds
The daughter of Lad is coming off of a victory on this racetrack at 1 mile and 70 yards. Although her speed ratings aren’t as good as some others in here, she’s in excellent form after finishing second two back and winning her last race. Should she be able to make out a clean trip from her outside post, and not have to go too far around the first turn, she should have a shot to win this. She’s a good horse at Mountaineer with a record of 3-2-1 out of 9 lifetime races on the main track.
I like Nothinglikegold to win this race on the front end and will bet her to win and place. I will also play an exacta and a trifecta box with Nothinglikegold, Hakuna Matata and Lads Starlit.
