How to Bet on Horse Racing

The single online betting experience that is available to BetUS online wagering fans practically everyday at almost all hours during the day is horse racing.

But the question is always, how do I bet on horses?  This guide should help you through the various online wager types offered to you. Whether you want to bet on the Triple Crown events like the Kentucky Derby, Preakness Stakes or Belmont Stakes or simply daily horse racing wagering action, BetUS Racebook has all your horse needs covered.

Straight Bet

Win/Place/Show - - Win means that your horse must finish first in the race for you to collect.  Place means that your horse must finish either first or second.  Show means that your horse must finish either first, second or third.  Now, if you bet your horse to show only and your horse finishes first, you only collect from the show pool.  Win, place and show pools are separate from each other.

Exotic Bet

Exactas/Trifectas/Pick 3s & Pick 4s - - Exactas are picking two horses, one to finish first and one to finish second.  Trifectas are picking three horses one to finish first, one to finish second and one to finish third.  In exacta and trifecta wagering you horses must finish in the exact order.  Pick 3 wagering requires picking the winner in three consecutive races.  Pick 4 wagering requires picking the winner in four consecutive races.

Box a Bet and Key Wagering Strategy

Exacta/Trifecta Wagering Strategy - - The best way to bet any exacta or trifecta is to either “box” the horses you like, or use one of your horses as a “key” horse.  Box a bet means to put horses together in a “box”.  For instance, if you like three horses and want to make a trifecta online wager - - 1, 2, 3 - - then you would box them like so, [1,2,3].  This means any of the horses in any combination in the first, second and third slots and you win your bet.  Key wagering means that you use one of your horses as a key over the other horses.  For instance, 2 and [1,3].  In this wager the 2 must win with the 1 and 3 coming in either second or third for you to win your horse bet.

Parlay Horse Betting

Parlay - - Parlay betting simply means picking winners from one race to another.  The races do not have to be consecutive.  The catch is that your previous bet must win.  For instance, you like a horse in race one.  That horse wins.  Then you like a horse in race three.  If you parlayed the two races, then your winnings from race one are automatically placed as a win wager onto the horse you like in race three.
