Deutsche Bank Championship - Odds to Win... Without Tiger Woods

Actually, betting against Tiger lately has been a pretty good wager as El Tigre has gone off at +150 in the BetUS online sportsbook only to lose by a single stroke in his last two tournaments.

Gamblers looking for more insurance against the big time favorite can bet on the winner of the Deutsche Bank Championship in the sportsbook without having to watch in fear of Woods ending their dream of a nice score.

Let’s take a look at the golfers, and their odds, with a chance in this category.

Deutsche Bank Championship To Win

  1. Padraig Harrington +900 - - Paddy’s just playing too well right now to be considered for anything but a victory. If he doesn’t blow it, and he should have learned his lesson after the WGC-Bridgestone and PGA Championship, a victory in the Deutsche Bank is very likely. Without Woods on the tee, it’s even more likely.

  2. Steve Stricker +1200 - - Stricker had The Barclays in the bag until Slocum hit that 21 ft putt. There’s no doubt, though, that out of the two Stricker is the one who has the bigger upside in this tournament. I can see him playing with El Tigre in the final pairing on Sunday and hoping that El Tigre folds again. Luckily, a wager in this category doesn’t require Tiger to fold in order to cash.

  3. Ernie Els +1400- - Els was fantastic this past Sunday and actually tied for second. That means he’s found his swing and is going to be difficult again this week in the Deutsche Bank. Without the specter of Tiger Woods ruining his game, gamblers can rest easy if they’ve got Els within a shot of Tiger and Tiger’s in the lead this weekend.

  4. Steve Marino +2500 - - I really like Marino’s chances to upset this field this week in the Deutsche Bank. It’s all going to depend on where his head is after he absolutely bombed the back nine on Sunday in The Barclays. If Marino can keep his cool about him and just play golf, he’s got a shot to win in this category.

  5. Jim Furyk +2000 - - Furyk’s golf betting odds to win straight-out are around 35 to 1. So, his odds getting cut in half without a +150 favorite in the field isn’t too bad. Furyk usually wins a tournament or two a year, but was blanked in 2008. He probably won’t be blanked in 2009 and he did play well last week in The Barclays.

  6. Phil Mickelson +1800 - - I left Mickelson off of my “to win” article because I just didn’t think he had his head straight after burning money last week. Then, I thought about it and realized that this is Lefty were talking about. There were many times when he could have packed it in and just quit. He’s never quit before. So, why would he now?

Best Long Shot

Heath Slocum +5500 - - Like I’ve written before, sometimes a golfer can get on a huge hot streak after making a defining putt. Slocum made that defining putt in The Barclays when he sunk a 21 ft par on the 18 th. That brilliance could carry over to this week. Is he long shot? Yes. But he’s a long shot with a reason or two to back.
