Using hit and run tactics in heads up and six max NLHE
by BetUS Staff

There is an ever growing number of players who sit down in heads up confrontations or six max games and play very aggressively for a few hands and then leave. This has been labelled lots of things in the past, blitzing, hit and run to name but a few. The technique is to sit down in a poker game and try to catch your opponents off guard by playing in an almost maniac type way.
If your opponents are unaware of you and have never played with you before then you can maybe get away with raising and re-raising from the get go and pushing players away from hands that they may otherwise have called you with had they known what you were trying to do.
These blood and thunder tactics can be very successful and especially in six max and heads up play against opponents who are sitting down to play for a longer session. In fact not only have I utilised these tactics myself very successfully in the past but I am also aware of players who have been making very considerable sums of money utilising these tactics.
If you sit down in a six max game and you are on the button, it has been folded around to the cut-off and they raise…..you re-raise with the 8-4s. Your hand really doesn’t matter, you are playing the situation and not the cards. You are looking to force several lay downs in a very short space of time and then leave the game leaving your opponents not knowing basically what has hit them.
When you are not intending to sit around for long sessions then your chances of getting away with this tactic increase! You could also keep notes on just who your opponents have been in the past as well so that you don’t try the same tactic against the same players.
It may be for this reason why hit and run tactics work better at lower stakes where the player pools are smaller. The ability to be able to use this weapon against lots of different players could serve to increase its lifespan. I used Poker Crusher when I did this for the simple reason that it already classified the players for me and this just made the tactic even better. You must have noticed in certain games how difficult it can be to sit in a game with highly aggressive players or maniacs.
They always seem to have a hand and when you have something marginal or are trying to steal then they always seem to be raising! It is infuriating when you are having to lay hands down but this just underlines how successful a very aggressive strategy can be and why so many players hate sitting in games with highly aggressive players.
